”True Love, hard to find and even harder to keep it…the thing we most desire”

First, I start this article with a disclaimer. Some may find my inspiration to this piece a little bit emotional but to my defense even for guys once in a while it’s good to get in touch with that side (It won’t make you any less of a man). Hopefully that is out of the way let me get into it.
On a Sunday evening, bored and unable to get any sleep, I decided to go through my sister’s laptop. After completing an Indian film (the sheer beauty of their women to this day startles me), luckily or unluckily I come across the TV series Being Mary Jane. It was the second season but with nothing better to do that evening I settled on watching the film. For those unfamiliar it’s a program that centers…

Something to Talk About.

A friend sent these words to me on New Year’s Day 2016. After reading, this passage I asked her “where did she get these words of wisdom?” she replied, “Someone sent them to me.”

I share these words with you.

No matter what your NEW YEARS RESOLUTION is…! The type of people in your life has a lot to do with your journey of life. Start the New Year with screening the people in your life. Evaluating them will let you know who to upgrade, downgrade or totally terminate. Always remember that not, everybody deserves the special guest star role in the movie of your life. Anyone who is not adding VALUE to your life shouldn’t be in the front line of your life.

The dream of a SADIST is for everyone to be miserable in life. Those who cannot see greatness in their own life will never see anything good in your life. Whoever sees or treats you, as an OPTION doesn’t deserve to be a priority in your life. Never put temporary people in permanent places of your life, and do not be afraid of removing the wrong people from the right places in your life. It is your life then it is your right.

Be BOLD to make any decision concerning your life. If people call it pride tell them it’s class. No matter the economy of the jungle, lions will never eat grass. Even if education is free, a rat will never go to school with a cat. You can never go anywhere with negative people. Negative people are like cars without gas and engines. You can sit in them, but they will never take you anywhere.

Always remember this: never ever embark on a journey with someone who is not going anywhere in life, or not willing to add VALUE to your life. Activate caution in your dealings with others…

Admiration For Amy Tan

Cafe Book Bean

amy-tanI seem to be drawn to the novels of Amy Tan. I’m unsure of the exact allure, but I find her style of writing deep and compelling. She often writes with a rawness that can feel a bit gritty, but at the same time it makes the novel feel more real and attractive. I love the way she ties history and culture into her stories, it is an added appeal (for me at least.)

Also, having two amazing daughters of my own, as well as a deep love and
respect for my mother, I especially enjoy how beautifully Tan writes about
mother-daughter relationships. I find the realness and emotion in her novels to be delightful. I hope I’ll have the time to read more of here work some day.

Here are what I find to be her most alluring books:

Mission is Habit Forming: a ★★★★★ book review.

thoughts, prayers & songs: my journey from self-absorption to doxology

As I write this review we are a week into 2016. Many people have already had their resolutions wrecked on the reef where good intentions and harsh reality meet. Most of these New Year’s resolutions are about personal development: losing weight, exercising more, mastering a new skill, etc. What about making habitual changes that will make you a more compelling force for God’s Kingdom mission in the world? Can we pursue the sort of life change which will impact others?

A popular author, speaker and cofounder of the Forge Mission Training Network presents the five habits of highly missional people and a simple plan of how to incorporate them into your life. Surprise the World! exhorts us to live questionable lives–“the kind of lives that evoke questions from [] friends,  then opportunities for sharing faith abound, and the chances for the gifted evangelists to boldly proclaim…

Traditional Women versus Modern Ladies

Dinner conversation with my mother went something like this:

61061539

Mother: “Why can’t today’s women be like the ladies of my time?”

Me: “Mom what are you taking about?”

Mother: “Look at how these so called modern girls dress, they don’t keep house well, can’t or won’t cook, and their behavior is out of control.”

Me: “Women of today are exploring what the world has to offer them.”

Mother: “Well, if you ask me, all of this freedom is causing problems in the home. The women who want to have a job over a husband and children is selfish.”

Me: “Most if not all the women from your generation (side bar my mother was born 1943) are living in denial, the world has changed and the nature of what women need and can do has evolved and so have their role in society.”

Mother: “That the problem women have forgotten their place. In my day women understood where we belonged, in the home, tending to our children, cooking and cleaning and making sure things in the home was right when our husbands came home.”

Me: “There are still women who desire to get married and have babies. However, there is nothing wrong with the few women who choose to either delay marriage and children or not to get married and have children. The major difference between your generation and mine is that we have choices, in your day you did not. I am sure that there were women of your time who did not want to get married as young as they did, but they had no choice or say in the matter.

Mother: That might be true but….

Me: No buts, mom, the women of your generation bash today’s women because they resent not having the freedom to explore life and make their own choices. I have heard many of your friend’s say, “if they could start life over, they would make better decisions.”  What you see expressed by this generation is a reflection of what they view on reality shows; look around mother no one is teaching the young women of today good values. Look at the four daughters, you raised, you taught us proper valves like, self-respect, being self-sufficient and creative. You showed us how to think for ourselves, to dress and behave like women. Most important you gave and showed us that we are loved.  Mom, most of the young women of today never experienced having a close bond with their mother or grandmother like me and my sisters did. The world has changed and it will continue to do so, instead of criticizing the modern women as  you called them, show share with them what you have given me, cause at the end of the day, they  want to be love, not looked down on.

Mother: Speechless
