Ten Ridiculous Relationship Myths

Dear Readers,

If you are now joining my blog  a few days ago a light bulb went off in my head. I’ve decided to create a You Tube channel, my own little talk show called Conversations from my Couch. This is an open forum to talk about every day issues, like relationships, women empowerment, health and fitness, political topics, and education. I am going to have fun, but be serious when I need to be. I just want to talk to the PEOPLE. so let me hear from you.

This segment comes to you courtesy of my very, very good friend Sara. She agreed to do an impromptu talk about some relationships myths. Sit Back and have Fun.

The Conversation

Dear readers, Sixteen days into the new year. Question how is those RESOLUTIONS working for you?

Well, if you haven’t read my post the Bucket list versus Resolutions, I’ve come across a list of 20 Questions by  author Martha  Nibley Beck,   an American sociologist, life coach, best-selling author, and speaker who specializes in helping individuals and groups achieve personal and professional goals.

Maybe its time to stop looking at that list of New Years Resolutions and have a serious conversation with yourself. Its Martha Beck’s theory  that these 20 question will help you to find the answers to some of life’s dilemmas by asking  the right questions.

  1. What questions should I be asking myself?
  2. Is this what I want to be doing?
  3. Why worry?
  4. Why do I like ________ more than I like _____?
  5. How do I want the world to be different because I lived  in it?
  6. How do I want to be different because I live in the world?
  7. Are vegans better people?
  8. What is my body telling me?
  9. How much junk could a chic chick if a chic chick could chuck junk?
  10. What’s so funny?
  11. Where am I wrong?
  12. What potential memories am I bartering, and is the profit worth the price?
  13. Am I the only one struggling not to ____?
  14. What do I love to practice?
  15. Where could I work less and achieve more?
  16. How can I keep myself absolutely safe?
  17. Where should I break the rules?
  18. So say I lived in that fabulous house in Tuscany, with untold wealth, a gorgeous , adoring mate, and a full staff of servants…then what?
  19. Are my thoughts hurting or healing?
  20. Really truly: Is this what I want to be doing?

The Converstaion

Dear readers,

While sitting in the schools cafe taking a must need coffee and lay’s potato chip break, I found myself engaged in a conversation  about winners and losers with a freshman. The subject of cheating came up, and from his perspective in today’s society playing fair isn’t expected. He said, ” Some one  has to lose for the other person to win; and if the winner achieves their goal by cheating then the mission is accomplished because the end goals is that the winner gets what they want.”

Me: Is there any circumstances where cheating is acceptable?

Student: Depends on the situation.

Me: Are you saying its okay to cheat?

Student: Sometimes because people who cheat win.

Me: Hmmmmmmmm. Why do you feel this way?

Student: People who cheat are smart, they get what they want.

Me: What about honest people?

Student:They are slow that’s why they don’t win.

Me: What happens to the people who are hurt when someone cheats and it affects them?

Students: If a person is going to cheat they can’t allow their feelings to get in the way.

Me: What have your parents told you about cheating?

Student: That its wrong and to always be honest.

Me: Ok.

Student: Have you ever did something wrong even though you knew it was cheating.

Me: Silence.

Is it Just Me?

Dear Readers,

I live in New York City. Yes, the big rotten apple. I’m among the millions of city dwellers who rely on public transportation. There are days when my ride is quiet and pleasant, but today wasn’t that day.

I LEFT MY HEAD PHONES HOME!

My one hour & fifteen minute commute quickly turned into the ride from hell.  There is nothing enjoyable about hearing children screeching for attention from parents who are occupied by their cell phones. Or hearing five different loud conversations by people who are in close proximity. Myself and other passengers were entertained by a Bible toting christian yelling, ” You must be saved” for fifteen minutes. Than there was the paraded of people shaking their cups, to the tune of ” Spare change.” I arrived at my destination mentally drained . I bolted to the nearest souvenir shop  to buy headphones for the commute back home.

Headphones on New York City MTA. Priceless!
